EITC donations make a BIG difference!

Philadelphia READS is an approved recognized Educational Improvement Organization under the EITC program.  The program is administered by PA’s Department of Community and Economic Development, authorizing tax credits to businesses – LIKE YOURS – that want to give back to the community.

How does it work?
The EITC Program allows businesses to make charitable contributions based on the amount of Pennsylvania state taxes they pay.  The program provides companies with a 75% tax credit for donations to an Educational Improvement Organization.  If the company commits to making the same donation for two consecutive years, the tax credit increases to 90%. A company authorized to do business in Pennsylvania can receive up to $750,000 in tax credits annually.

What is an Educational Improvement Organization?
An organization that provides "innovative educational programs", such as Philadelphia READS!

For organizations that apply and are approved for this program, there are a host of taxes that are eligible for tax credits, including:
Capital Stock/Foreign Franchise Tax

  • Corporate Net Income Tax

  • Bank Shares Tax

  • Title Insurance & Trust Company Shares Tax

  • Insurance Premiums Tax (excluding surplus lines, unauthorized, domestic/foreign marine)

  • Mutual Thrift Tax

  • Gross Receipts Tax

  • Tax under the Insurance Company Law of 1921

  • Personal Income Tax

How EITC contributions make a difference through Philadelphia READS:

EITC funds help support our four signature programs, making sure that kids in our city have books to read and the support to not only learn HOW to read, but to grow a love of reading to last a lifetime.  From books, to supplies, to teachers and coordinators and more, your donations help keep us strong, so that we can serve Philadelphia’s most under resourced and vulnerable populations.  For more information about our programs, click here.
