Every March Philadelphia READS hosts READ Across Philadelphia Day which is an event, aligned with the national “Read Across America Day,”  to celebrate the birthday and legacy of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. To celebrate his we encourage the adults in the community to take some time and read with a child!

 Read Across Philadelphia Day

What It Is

Read Across America marks Dr. Seuss’s birthday and his love of books. Across the country adults set aside time to focus on reading with children.

READ Across Philadelphia Day, lead by Philadelphia READS, is our city's way to celebrate this national movement!

Why is this important? If every child in every school or in every home is reading with a caring adult, we send the message that reading is important and fun. To celebrate, we’ve hosted readings around the city all month long, and we are hosting two reading-inspired events this Saturday!

In 2019 we had a great time hosting events at the Please Touch Museum and North Bowl Philadelphia. Our Power Partners celebrated with activities, read alouds and special guest readers!

FREE Activities for Anywhere!

Every year, Philadelphia READS provides a free compilation of resources and activities for one Dr. Seuss book for the community. Join us in celebrating the impact Dr. Seuss has made on children, by reading and sharing his books with the children in our city.

This year we commemorate the 115th birthday of Theodor Geisel, known to millions as Dr. Seuss, by selecting "Oh, the Places You Will Go!". Download your free copy of the activity packet by clicking here: resource guide

Get Involved

We encourage you to use these activities for this book and read other Dr. Seuss books to your students or children. His words and illustrations are delightful and continue to hold powerful messages for both children and adults.

If you are interested becoming a sponsor of READ Across Philadelphia or would like to be a guest reader please email us at development@philareads.org.
